Self-directed Learning Methodology

Methodology

The learning that is provided in a self-directed format is often by short online videos, targeted learning, printed and accessible information aids, or related real-world information.

Learning is timed and packaged to meet one need at a time. Information is provided through traditional paper, online, or through mobile devices depending on the need and availability.

It is essential that the information is readily available and easily understood by the person who needs it; otherwise the learner may lose focus, which defeats the benefits of self-directed learning.

Meeting only the immediate need improves knowledge retention and promotes learner empowerment. One of the criteria used to assess learning is the speed of connecting the learner with the need to learning and delivery of the content.
